Upcycling

Recycling and Reusing

For this project, I used:
  • Sandpaper
  • 3 x Tin Cans
  • Newspaper
  • Acrylic paints
  • Paintbrushes
  • Pencil/Stencil
  • White Paper
  • Glue Stick

Important - Before starting on the upcycling, I needed to make sure that I rounded off all of the sharp edges on each tin can to ensure that they were safe to use. Safety comes first when using materials.

Having cleaned out each of the three tin cans, and removed the outside wrapping, I glued a piece of white paper to one of the tin cans to act as the base of my design - I could have used white paint to create the same effect.

Before opening the paints, I made sure that I set up an area where I could lay down some newspaper and work cleanly.

On each tin can, I created a unique and original design dependent on the colours I had available to me at home during lockdown. I drew shapes and designs on each can so that I knew what I was creating before I added all of the paints to each tin. Making small, delicate brushstrokes I followed these lines and worked slowly. I worked on one design at a time, and when finished I put each of them on newspaper outside to dry.

Once they were all dry later on, I finished them all off by painting the base and very top all light blue, then put them back outside to dry.

I was very happy with the finished product, and now they sit on one of my shelves holding some of my stationery.
